Asha members discussed the issue of the rising number of undertrial cases jailed in the past 5 years and the overcrowding problem affecting prisons during Covid-19 outbreaks. In addition, a majority of undertrial jailings come from marginalized caste groups that are routinely mistreated in the justice system. We also noted the importance of this issue to our partnership with the Tihar Jail.
